Process Production Internship - PT Heinz ABC Indonesia, Pasuruan Plant

Gained hands-on experience in production process analysis and improvement within a food manufacturing environment, collaborating with Production, QA, QC, Engineering, Utility, and Warehouse teams.

Observing production operations and equipment at PT Heinz ABC Indonesia, Pasuruan Plant.

Completed a six-month internship in the Process Production function at PT Heinz ABC Indonesia, Pasuruan Plant, gaining hands-on exposure to production processes, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration in a food manufacturing environment.

I was involved in the observation and analysis of production processes for soy sauce and syrup products, including process stages from fermentation and preparation through to packing. I worked closely with Production, Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), Engineering, Utility, and Warehouse teams to understand process requirements, identify operational considerations, and support activities related to production efficiency and quality.

One of my main activities involved reviewing and supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions (IK) for production processes. I also participated in process documentation and equipment-related activities, including valve and piping identification, as well as reviewing work instructions for equipment such as cartridge systems, rinser tanks, magnet traps, and Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE).

Participating in a discussion and training session on work instructions with a Production Supervisor and team members at PT Heinz ABC Indonesia.

As part of the internship, I also conducted activities related to process monitoring, wastewater sampling, and safety. I participated in COD sampling of rinse water with the laboratory team and was introduced to safety practices including B3 handling, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), HIRAC, and production-area safety procedures. I also received exposure to food safety and manufacturing systems, including GMP and food safety practices applied in the plant.

In addition to routine internship activities, I worked on a special engineering project analyzing the utilization of boiler flue gas through an economizer to support heating requirements in the sauce production process. The project involved evaluating heat transfer performance, process conditions, equipment configuration, and potential steam savings. I performed engineering calculations and compared the proposed approach with the existing/direct heating concept to assess its technical and economic feasibility.

This internship strengthened my practical understanding of food manufacturing processes, process equipment, heat transfer, production operations, SOP development, GMP, food safety, occupational safety, and cross-functional teamwork. It also improved my ability to observe industrial processes, communicate with different departments, analyze technical problems, and translate engineering concepts into practical manufacturing solutions.
