Comunity Service Project: Utilizing Used Cooking Oil to Make Aromatherapy Candles in Pajaran Vilage, Malang
Developed an aromatherapy candle product from used cooking oil through formulation trials and community-based implementation in Pajaran Village, Malang.
Participated in a community service project in Pajaran Village, Malang, focusing on the utilization of used cooking oil as a raw material for aromatherapy candles. The project aimed to transform household waste into a useful and value-added product while introducing a practical waste-utilization approach to the local community.
Before implementation in the community, I worked with fellow students to conduct initial product trials at campus and develop a more suitable candle formulation. Through several formulation trials and evaluations, we refined the production method to improve the quality and practicality of the final product.
In addition to product development, I contributed to preparing the production tutorial video and product sticker/label, which were used to support the implementation and knowledge transfer activities. At the community service location, I participated directly in demonstrating the production process and teaching the community how to utilize used cooking oil to produce aromatherapy candles.
This project strengthened my experience in product formulation, experimental trial and improvement, waste utilization, technical communication, teamwork, and community engagement. It also provided practical experience in translating an experimental product developed in the laboratory into a simple and applicable solution for community use.
